Building Foodios

We were inspired to build topic-specific social networks as a way to build more positive online environments than existing social networks have generally produced. An example would be Strava which motivates people doing workouts by connecting them socially.

Starting with Food

The first topic we are launching with is food - something everybody needs! We've called this app Foodios, and it aims to be a place to discuss all things food - whether you're just looking for ideas on what to cook, or sharing recipes or photos of food or reviews on restaurants, Foodios is the place for you!

Foodios will launch with Android and iOS apps as well as a web interface. These all exist but are currently in testing with a limited set of users, so you can't sign up for Foodios quite yet.

Technology

Foodios is built using technology from Bluesky (the micro-blogging alternative to Twitter/X that has seen significant growth recently). Bluesky has produced an incredible open ecosystem that includes open source code and an open protocol that puts choice in the hands of users.

Currently, the Foodios network is entirely separate from the broader Bluesky ecosystem. This has been done to ensure a focus on the positive culture we want to create. 

Foodios is produced by Inconceivable R and D, a company based in Cape Town, South Africa.
